Right Here Right Now
Thursday, December 31st, 2009Another new year’s eve and another one on the verge of a new decade. No more ‘0-something. No talk of the world ending like the the new year’s eve for Y2K. I think people are, and I know that I am, just ready to see 2009 go. It’s not that it’s been such a terrible year, but I think that it was a year of learning, being patient, accepting certain realities and new challenges. So really, how was it different than any other year?
My Highlights:
- My brother-in-law, Ben’s, graduation from Stanford in January. Way to go, ‘PA’ Benny! Plus, the birth of their daughter, Aliyah.
- A visit from my Norwegian cousin, Bjørnar, and his daughter, Frida, whom I had not previously met. She was born after my 1995 visit to them.
- A visit from our pal Napolean Dynamite. ND=Ken!
- A weekend at Whistler with the neighbors including riding the Peak2Peak chair.
- My dad’s 75th birthday. Yay Papa Quaas!
- Lots of time with the Redmans, aka the family behind Mannina Cellars, from wine dinners to spring release and fall release. Love it.
- Cool Works Meetups - Seattle, Yellowstone, and the Tetons - All great fun.
- Photo shoots for Tori, Juli and Emma, the Kleavelands and my niece, Breanne’s senior pics.
- Exhibiting my photography at the Shoreline Arts Festival and “The Elements” at A Gathering Grove.
- SHRM in New Orleans. Met lots of new HR / Recruiting friends. Awesome time.
- Outstanding in the Field x 2.
- Cool Twitter Conferences x 2.
- Actually being on the water for Seafair, up close and personal with The Blue Angels and the Hydros. It was awesome!
- Being a CA (Company Advisor) for Washington Business Week. It had been 20 years since my last full week at Business Week when I was a student on CWU’s campus. Both experiences were incredible. If you want to make a difference in teens’ lives for a week, this is a great way to do so.
- My husband’s 20th high school class reunion. His reunions are the best.
- GREECE!
- A quick trip to San Francisco to see the German relatives and the Laabacks.
- A fall trip to Gardiner, Montana, for the 2009 annual SHRA conference.
- Attending the Onrec / Kennedy recruiting conference in Chicago which allowed me/us to see more HR / Recruiting friends and Jen and Mike. Oontz, oontz.
- (A not so fun update, but it happened) - My dad’s heart attack. I’m daily happily that he survived and there is a plan in place to further his recovery and road to a healthier Papa Quaas. Thanks to many for their concern and support!
- San Diego with the chancellor for Thanksgiving.
- A pleasant Christmas.
- Having a Blue Moon for New Year’s Eve. : )
Well, I’ve done it. There is my year. I hope that you too had moments of thanksgiving, appreciation, and joy in 2009. May 2010 be a year of good health, good times with old and new friends, and the desire to seize the day.
It’s time to celebrate! Bring on 2010!
